Heritance Tea Factory is nested in the mountain range that is considered the birthplace of the world’s best tea. The original tea factory was constructed in the days of British Raj. A cup of hot spice tea greets you upon arrival and let you taste your first sip of a unique unmatchable experience, offered exclusively at the hotel. The atrium is latticed with steel, color coded green to show the original metalwork and red to show which supports were added during the conversion in 1996. Above the head, two giant brass-capped wooden fans remind the guest that the bedrooms used to be the withering lofts, where the tea leaves were laid out to let the moisture evaporate. The area used to shift and grade tea has been converted into the hotels’ Kenmare Restaurant and the former engine room is now the modern kitchen. Although it gives the guests an initial perception of a historical Museum; Heritance Tea Factory is equipped with all modern amenities that ensure a memorable experience without compromising comfort. The 54 cosy, carpeted bedrooms come with bathtubs showers in heating for when the mists close in. The hotel's main restaurant, offer the unusual experience of dining in a 1930s narrow-gauge railway carriage. In addition to finding out about the local wildlife and community of their nature treks, guests have the chance to pick their own tea and have it processed in the Mini Tea Factory, so they can take a little piece of Sri Lanka home with them.
